History of Boksitogorsk
Boksitogorsk was founded in 1935.

Boksitogorsk is located on the river Pyrdomla (basin of the Syas), 20 km from the railway station Big Dvor (on the railway line Saint Petersburg - Vologda), 245 km to the east from Saint Petersburg.
In 1869 first information about red clay was mentioned. In 1916 citizen of the city Tihvin, engineer T.P. Timofeev brought to saint Petersburg geological committee samples of rocks which were determined as bauxite with high concentration of silica (Tihvinskoe deposit).
In 1929 near the city Tihvin building of bauxite mines began and working village became larger.
In 1935 village Boksitogorsk, since 1950 it became a city.
Before the Great Patriotic war there was a big industry in Boksitogorsk. During the war enemy aviation bombed the city. Factory equipment was evacuated. After the war industry was restored, in 1950 enemy village was reorganized in the city.
Boksitogorsk became one of the main industrial centers of the region.
Boksitogorsk is connected with Tihvin (32 km) by automobile highway by which buses go. There are automobile roads in all places of the region.
