Brief characteristics of Baltiysk

The city Baltiysk is the most western point of Russia. The former name of the city is Pillau. History of the city began in 1510 when canal Pillau became navigable and first people arrived there. In 1626 Swedish king Gustav-Arnold built so-called Swedish fortress and used it as an important place ion the war.

In 1679 construction of trade and military fleet began.

Nowadays Baltiysk is a military maritime base of Baltic fleet of the Russian Federation.

This region is famous for its amber. Also you can have a trip to many nice places in the Baltic coast.
