Almetyevsk is located in Prikamye, on a hillside of the Bugulminsko-Belebeevskaya upland, on the left shore of the Zay river (a confluent of the Kama river), about 16 km away from the Almetievskaya train station to the north-west, 279 km away from Kazan to the east.
