Brief Description:
Achinsk is located on a spur of the Arga mountain range, on the right shore of the Chulym river (a confluent of the Ob river) where the Chulym river is crossed by trans-Siberian Railroad. Achinsk is located about 184 km away from Krasnoyarsk to the west. A waterway station. A junction of railroads. An airport.

Historical Sketch:
The city was founded in 1641 as the Achinsk burg on the Beliy Iyus River. It was displaced onto the Chulym River where the small Achinka river flows in. Achinsk was named so because of the location on lands of the Turkic tribal group called achi, achigi. Since 1782 – the city of Achinsk.
