Geographical situation of Abakan
Abakan is situated in the south of Siberia, in the centre of Asia, at the same parallel as Magnitogorsk, Minsk, Hamburg. Abakan is located in the centre of Michurinsk foundation pit which is crossed by the Yenisei. In the centre the Abakan river flows into the Yenisei. Abakan city is located on the place where the two rivers join.
City frontier borders with the territory of state enterprise "Airport-Abakan" in the north, and with Michurinsk area in the east, with the territory of poultry factory. In the south city territory is limited by the joint-companies "Altayskoe" and "Alkom". Neighbors of the city are territories of Beloyarsk, Kalininsk and Sapogovsk village councils, organizations "Khakasskoye", "Khakassstoymaterials", "Shebaevskoe", "Abakanvagonmash". Then city frontier stretches to the south part of the village Kalinino, down the river Tasheb and comes to the auto bile road Krasnoyarsk-Kyzyl.
South out-skirts of Abakan are represented by the settlement Nizhnaya Sogra. It is situated in the triangle between rivers and the mountain. There is a river port and the Yenisei to the right, to the left there is another settlement - Verhnaya Sogra. These settlements form the right bank part of Abakan city.
Left-bank part begins with a dyke. It has the form of the circle and it surrounds Abakan protecting it from river overflows and serving as a highway. There is a bridge, a nice building of river passenger port.
There is a beautiful view of Abakan: squares, streets, parks, gardens. Abakan looks like a big green island. There are many living houses, modern blocks of flats, they are located in the micro districts. On the map you can see that the blue colour prevails: rivers, canals, storage ponds which wash Abakan from many sides. You can find many ancient buildings, an old harbour, where ships moored some centuries ago, ancient burial mounds.
Northern part of Abakna is modern.There are many storey houses, many public buildings, a racecourse, a stadium, parks, hotels, recreational and trade centers, radio and television offices, theater, stations. You can find many organizations, central transport roads. In the centre there is the main square where administrative buildings of republican and city institutions and theatres are located. There is the 4th micro-district with a new market, a cathedral. Also there is an airport. Originally its was far from Abakan but now it became the part of Abakan.
